Exposure Fundamentals:
Class starts at our facilities by reviewing the foundations of digital camera settings and manual mode, including exposure control, shutter speed, aperture and ISO. On the second part of this photo workshop, students will headout to Union Square park or the Highline (when possible) to put their knowledge to test. This photo tour will include assessing lighting conditions, applying appropriate camera settings to successfully expose the image, and dealing with various camera settings such as focus, metering, and framing on a busy environment. This part will also include blur control, and freezing motion.
For the first class, please bring your camera with fresh batteries! Note, camera must have Manual control of shutter-speed and aperture. In case of rain, sessions will be rescheduled as possible. Also recommended "Field Trip, Night Photography"
Night Photography:
These photography workshops start at our facilities by reviewing the foundations of exposure as related uniquely to night photography. Students will test shoot all learned concepts and then head out to shoot a series of experimental key night images that will take their skills to the next level. This photo tour follows with plenty of shooting from ambiance, through motion blur to lighting effects and wonderful cityscapes. Class times are assigned so to capture part of dusk, weather permitting. Shooting areas will be Union Square park or the Highline (when possible). PhotoManhattan will provide Tripods as needed. Class is limited to 10 students.
Requirements: basic knowledge of Manual exposure. And camera with Manual control of shutter-speed and aperture. NOTE: In case of rain, sessions will be rescheduled. Also recommended "Field trip, Exposure & Manual Mode"
The Golden hour:
In the first half of class students will discuss techniques for shooting in natural light, including a review of manual settings, tripod usage and a basic introduction to dynamic range and color temperature. We will also look at some inspiring examples of naturally lit images from the history of photography for inspiration.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of aperture & shutter-speed are highly recommended but not necessary.
For the first class, please bring your camera with fresh batteries, and it's manuals if at hand. Students are encouraged to bring tripods if they are available, otherwise PhotoManhattan also has tripods available for use.
